2004 Didacta Trade Fair for Education and Training - A big success for BIBB!

The Didacta Trade Fair for Education and Training, held this year in Cologne, Germany, from February 9 - 13, drew some 90,000 visitors, making it a big hit not only for the organizer Messe Köln. Germany's Federal Institute for Vocational Training ("BIBB") also reported success: Both the BIBB stand and the Training and Qualification Forum which BIBB organized were swamped with visitors at times.

Over a space of 120 square metres, BIBB presented its entire range of publications and reports on its work in the initial and continuing vocational education and training field. Electronic instruction and learning software on the subjects of woodworking, industrial health and safety, and learning and teaching with multimedia as well as BIBB's ELDOC database (E-Learning DOCumentation) saw the greatest demand among visitors. However, information on new or updated occupations for the year 2004 - and on the new regulations for industrial metal-working or metal processing occupations in particular - also attracted much interest.

The BIBB stand was not however the only place where visitors to this year's Didacta could find information about BIBB's work. The substance of BIBB's publications and multimedia products was supplemented by BIBB lecturers who gave daily talks on current vocational training topics at the Education and Qualification Forum.

Audiences of up to 150 people at a time heard the various lectures held every day on a number of subjects revolving around:

  • Modern occupations
  • The training place situation for 2003/2004
  • Questions on all aspects of vocational training
  • The latest developments in the continuing training field

In addition, a Blended Learning practice-oriented day offered other exhibitors in the Training/Qualification hall an opportunity to make contributions to this subject.

A special highlight at this year's Didacta was the award ceremony for the Federal Institute for Vocational Training's fourth Innovation in Continuing Education Prize (2004 "WIP") which was conducted for the first time this year at the Training and Qualification Forum. The awards were presented under the auspices of the minister-president of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mr. Peer Steinbrück.

The minister of economics and labour of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Mr. Harald Schartau, and the president of the Federal Institute for Vocational Training, Prof. Helmut Pütz, presented the 2004 WIP awards - which come with € 2,500 in prize money for each award - to this year's five recipients.
