Regional co-operation for training places in Germany's eastern states:
BIBB announces good practice competition
Successful projects and good ideas for increasing the number of in-house training places in Germany's eastern states must be supported and publicized! With this in mind, Germany's Federal Institute for Vocational Training ("BIBB") is holding the fifth Examples of Good Practice in the Eastern States Competition to identify and single out innovative, exemplary activities involving local and regional co-operation that help protect and increase the number of in-house training places on offer. Their presentation to the public will spotlight how the collaborative efforts of many players make it possible to develop existing training opportunities and tap into potential for generating new training places and concomitantly improve the training-place situation in individual regions.
Launched in 2000, this competition1 is a fundamental element of the BIBB project Regional Guidance for Ensuring and Developing the Number of Training Places in Germany's Eastern States (Regio Skills Training) which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. This project was designed to initiate, foster and support local and regional networks aimed at increasing the number of in-house training places.2 These efforts are to improve the link between training measures and regional economic development concomitantly.
The competition targets submissions for the following types of activities:
Campaigns and models in the area of:
- IT occupations, particularly for girls and young women
- The new skilled occupations that require formal training
- The leisure industry and service occupations
- Marketing campaigns conducted for the launch of new skilled occupations that require formal training
- Information and guidance services for companies on new or revised skilled occupations that require formal training
- Cross-border co-operation with Poland or the Czech Republic in the area of initial and continuing vocational trainingand measures
- To encourage early vocational orientation, vocational information and prevocational training
- To step up the recruitment of skilled labour and ensure the availability of existing skilled labour (which in turn could help protect a company's or region's attractiveness as a location for business or industry on a longer term)
- Involving local and regional co-operation between companies, bodies dedicated to fostering regional business and industry, training providers, industrial associations and chambers as examples of cross-institutional collaboration.
All natural persons and legal entities in Germany's eastern states which are planning, implementing or have already realized activities aimed at the previously mentioned objectives may participate in the competition. The winners will be selected by an independent jury that is appointed by the Federal Institute for Vocational Training.
As with last year's competition, submissions may be made for the following two categories:
Category 1
Seven prizes with prize-money of € 7,000 each
Projects that have proven in practice to be effective in creating new in-house training places; projects which have already been developed but are still in the implementation phase.
Category 2
Four prizes with prize-money of € 16,000 each
New, not yet realized project ideas and concepts that are highly relevant to actual vocational practice and offer good potential for practical application.
Deadline for submissions is July 5, 2004.
