The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training was initially founded in 1970. The present-day legal basis for the BIBB is the Vocational Training Act (Berufsbildungsgesetz - BBiG) of 23 march 2005.
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training is a Federal institution directly financed from budgetary funds of the Federal government. It is legally supervised by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung - BMBF). The Institute is located in Bonn.
