Award: Kerschensteiner Medal for Prof. Dr. Helmut Pütz
President of the Federal Institute of Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) honoured for his great services to vocational education in Germany
The President of the Federal Institute of Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), Prof. Dr. Helmut Pütz, has been awarded the Kerschensteiner Medal for his great services to the further development of the vocational education and training system in the Federal Republic of Germany, in particular his support of vocational education and training research as well as the creation of new occupations and the reclassification of existing ones. Prof. Dr. Helmut Pütz received the award, only the fifth occasion in has been given in Germany since 1954, within the framework of the 22nd German Vocational Schools Conference with the theme "Vocational Education and Training - Europe's Future", organised by the German Association of Teachers at Vocational Schools (BLBS), which took place from 21 to 23 April 2005 in Lübeck.
The new BLBS National Chairman, Berthold Gehlert, and his predecessor, Günter Besenfelder, honoured Prof. Dr. Helmut Pütz before around 700 conference delegates for his continual support for the balanced dual harmony between the in-company and school aspects of vocational education and training. He had used his up-to-date and scientifically based style of leadership to include the concerns of the vocational schools in the decision making processes of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and training in Bonn. "We honour Prof. Dr. Helmut Pütz as a guiding and influential character in the dual system of vocational education and training in Germany", said the laudation.
The Kerschensteiner Medal has been awarded by the German Association of Teachers at Vocational Schools in Germany since 1954 in memory of the 100th birthday of the great educationalist Georg Kerschensteiner (1854-1932). The medal is awarded to personalities who have rendered special services in the field of vocational education and training on the nomination of the National Committee of the BLBS.
