Senate of Bremen University of Applied Sciences awards the President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) the title of "Honorary Senator"
"Honorary Senator" - was the title bestowed on the President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), Prof. Dr. Helmut Pütz, by the Academic Senate of Bremen University of Applied Sciences in a ceremony which took place on 3 May 2005 in Bremen. Bremen University of Applied Sciences acknowledges with this honorary title the services of Prof. Pütz as a visiting professor in the School of Economics at Bremen University of Applied Sciences. The occasion of the award is the end of Prof. Pütz's period of office as Visiting Professor. At the end of June 2005, Prof. Pütz will retire as President of the BIBB and is at the same time retiring from his teaching commitments as visiting professor of Bremen University of Applied Sciences. Prof. Pütz had enjoyed close connections with the School of Economics at Bremen University of Applied Sciences since the winter semester of 1998/99. Starting as a lecturer, then later as visiting professor, he taught courses in the field of "initial and further vocational education and training" and as an examiner accompanied "his" students to their trainer aptitude examinations.
In his laudation of Prof. Pütz, Prof. Dieter Leuthold, who teaches in the area of "vocational education and training and corporate communication", stressed the contribution Prof. Pütz had made to the success story of Bremen University of Applied Sciences, which showed how classical technical universities could fuse together into a university of distinction. His willingness to take on teaching commitments in the area of "initial and further vocational education and training" meant that Prof. Pütz established in a lively manner the dialogue always demanded between universities and the outside world. Amidst all the enthusiasm for modernisation and globalisation, an orientation based on the common good and on the ethical principles and aims of commercial trade should not be pushed into the background - "old" values and virtues still retained their validity. Putting this across had also always been one of Prof. Pütz's concerns. In his courses, he had always taught his students that it was urgent and responsible to cross over the limits of vested interests and focus on consensus between the social groups and participants, in line with the principles of the work of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training.
The great interest shown in his courses by the students was regularly reflected in the appraisals the students submitted. Prof. Pütz's courses in the area of "initial and further vocational education and training" were predominantly judged "very good" or "good".
The Rector of Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Dr. habil. Elmar Schreiber, spoke of his particular regret at the departure of Prof. Pütz in the light of the current challenges being faced by Bremen University of Applied Sciences: the changeover from the previous degree courses to bachelors and masters courses - a necessary, complex and difficult process, on which Prof. Pütz would unfortunately no longer bring his specialist skills to bear.
