Successfully put into practice! Networks create training places in the tourism and leisure time industry, mechatronics and IT field
The Regional Consultancy Services for Safeguarding and Developing Training Places on Offer in the Eastern States ("Regio-Kompetenz-Ausbildung") project has been working since late 1999 together with many partners directly on location to assist and provide flanking support for regional vocational training networks and alliances in Germany's eastern states - with the aim of increasing the number of in-company training places on offer in modern and promising fields in the eastern half of the country, ensuring a regional reservoir of young skilled workers in these sectors and, in the process, fostering and fuelling regional economic development. The Regio-Kompetenz-Ausbildung project is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and conducted by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training in close cooperation with the Gesellschaft zur Förderung von Bildungsforschung und Qualifizierung mbH (Company for Fostering Education Research and Qualification). The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training ("BIBB") has just issued three publications that outline the successful work being done by the some 60 local and regional cooperation partners in these networks in the tourism and leisure time industry, mechatronics field and IT occupations. Using examples of good practice in the eastern states, these publications aim to publicize the wide variety of campaigns being conducted to safeguard and develop the number of in-company training places on offer and prompt many others throughout the country to emulate them.
The German-language publications:
- Tourismus und Freizeitwirtschaft (Tourism and Leisure Time Industry):
This volume assesses the network activities undertaken by the Regio-Kompetenz-Ausbildung project in the tourism, sport, fitness and health fields. The examples drawn from day-to-day practice vividly illustrate how it has been possible - through the commitment and collaboration of many players - to open up the tourism and leisure time sector for vocational training. These efforts have resulted not only in an increase in the number of training places in these fields. Thanks to the network work that the Regio-Kompetenz-Ausbildung project assisted, it was also possible to open up new prospects for the economic development of these sectors in the eastern states. - Gemeinsam zum Ziel - Ausbildungsinitiative Altmark (Reaching Our Goal Together - The Altmark Training Campaign): This publication documents the origins and development of a training alliance in northern Saxony-Anhalt that made it possible for the first time for significant numbers of trainees in the region to receive in-company vocational training in IT occupations. Assisted by the Regio-Kompetenz-Ausbildung project, the collaborators in this alliance - part-time vocational schools, education service providers and companies in the region - developed an exemplary model that can provide ideas for vocational training in other, similarly structured economic areas.
- Ausbildungsnetzwerk Mechatronik - Erkenntnisse - Ergebnisse - Perspektiven (The Mechatronics Training Network - Insights - Results - Outlooks): This publication presents selected aspects of the thematic mechatronics training network and the results of its work. The examples from day-to-day practice in various regional firms and institutions in the eastern states that are presented and explained here illustrate the wide range of training subjects offered, their implementation in actual practice and how they are linked to complex tasks in the mechatronics field.
