The Vocational Training Literature Databank makes researching literature on vocational training a snap!

Searching for relevant specialized literature on vocational training and vocational training research has just gotten easier! The Vocational Training Literature Databank ("LDBB") administered by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training ("BIBB") can now be accessed free of charge at www.ldbb.de  by all who seek fast access - regardless of the time or place - to specialized literature of relevance to their daily work in the initial or continuing vocational training field or for academic work at university.

This databank currently contains some 46,000 references for primarily German-language specialized literature from the year 1988 onwards. It is updated every 14 days.

Periodical articles, articles in compilations, monographs, conference papers, grey literature are among the items that are used for the databank. The documented titles are indexed using bibliographic citations with subject headings, abstracts and the vocational training classification system. A growing number of online documents such as all of BIBB's Internet publications and specialist articles in online periodicals are also being added to the databank. The references are linked to the full text, making it possible to retrieve texts immediately.

The main thematic fields covered by the LDBB are:

  • Vocational education and training (VET), the VET system, Germany's "dual" vocational training system (which combines part-time vocational schooling with practical work experience)
  • Vocational training policies, the training place market
  • Vocational training research
  • Skill trends, early detection
  • Structure and organization of initial and continuing VET
  • In-company and school-based vocational training
  • Training behaviour, career development
  • Pilot projects, innovative teaching and learning methods, new media
  • Economics of education
  • Assistance for disadvantaged persons in the VET system
  • International cooperation in the vocational training field.

The LDBB literature databank can be searched free of charge. Users can also request the BIBB Documentation Office to conduct a literature search for them for a fee of € 30.00 ( € 20.00 for students, trainees, etc.). The request form can be downloaded as well.

The LDBB is a joint project of the AGBFN vocational education and training research network and is supervised by the Federal Institute of Vocational Education and Training ("BIBB"). Besides BIBB, the network's partners include the Institute for Employment Research of the Federal Employment Agency ("IAB") and the German Institute for Adult Education ("DIE").
