BIBB implementation aids support new career routes in the joinery trade!
Journeymen and women in the joinery trade wishing to develop themselves further in their careers and add a particular dimension to their professional activities have, since last year, been afforded the opportunity of climbing onto a new step on the career ladder between the level of journeyman/woman and master craftsman/woman. On 6 July 2004, three new further training regulations came into force, enabling continuing qualification within the join-ery trade as a "qualified customer advisor", "qualified production planner" or "qualified specialist construction manager". The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), which played a significant part in the development of these new occupations, has now published three brochures to explain the requirements involved to all those interested in the new career route and to facilitate its implementation in training practice.
Qualified customer advisors work at the interface between the company and the customer and deal mainly with customer advice, implementation of customer requirements and preparing customer quotations.
Qualified production planners work at the interface between customers and production. They are primarily responsible for the organisation of production processes (planning and coordina-tion tasks, preparing technical documentation, managing employees) and the deployment of staff and company resources.
Qualified specialist construction managers work at the interface between assembly, the company and the customer. The core aspects of their role are supply and assembly of the pro-ducts, including planning and coordination tasks when orders are received, management of employees, quality assurance, calculation and documentation of the assembly works, as well as also being responsible for processing customer requirements, the demands of other works involved within the construction and dealing with complaints.
The three "implementation aids for examination regulations", which have been developed by BIBB in conjunction with experts from specialist fields of practice, each presents one of these three occupations. These implementation aids:
- provide information about the respective examination regulations, explain the reasons for the newly structured further training in the joinery trade and give a brief overview of the occupational opportunities associated with the further training;
- put forward recommendations for the implementation of the further training regulations in the preparatory courses and present sample learning contents, whilst in addition de-veloping an outline curriculum with learning time guidelines, with explanations of the contents and supplemented with indications as to how the material is to be conveyed;
- present guidance with regard to the examination and recommendations for the ex-amination boards together with the requirements the examination boards and examina-tion candidates must fulfil, an example setting of an examination task also facilitating the implementation of the examination in accordance with the regulations;
- provide an information section with a glossary of definitions of key words, as well as giving guidance on literature, indexes of the addresses of the major contact partners and extracts form the Crafts and Trades Regulation Code.
