From day-to-day practitioners for day-to-day practitioners: BIBB brochures offer practical tips for implementing new training for industrial metal-working occupations
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training ("BIBB") in Bonn has published five brochures that offer vocational training practitioners important tips and aids for implementing the newly revised training profiles for industrial metal-working occupations. These brochures focus on the following five updated occupations that require formal vocational training: Plant Mechanic, Industrial Mechanic, Construction Mechanic, Tools Mechanic and Milling Machine Operator. These brochures give firms that provide in-house vocational training, part-time vocational schools and examination boards for the some 100,000 trainees in this occupational group valuable guidance and practical tips that can help further improve the good quality of vocational training," explained BIBB President Manfred Kremer.
These publications outline the reasons why the training requirements for these occupations were overhauled and present concrete examples to explain the new training and examination structures. Using real work orders, they illustrate the training that takes place in the course of company work processes and offer ideas and tools for implementing "learning field"-based instruction (a new instrument designed to break open the traditional subject-based structure of vocational school instruction and replace it with a cross-functional approach that revolves primarily around business and work processes) in part-time vocational schools - and in collaborative activities between learning venues. A typical example of a real company job order is produced for the first time in its entirety for the revamped, activity-based final examination.
Each publication includes a CD-ROM with the following content:
- Training profiles in German, English and French
- Training regulations and framework curricula
- Outline information on subjects such as "Allocating occupational profile positions to the training timetable" or "Timetables/Learning fields with detailed background information"
- Presentation and video entitled "Example of a real work order for use as a learning and work assignment"
- Sample forms for applying for or conducting examinations
These aids and practical tips for trainers, teachers and examiners were developed to foster the development of flexible skilled workers who have broad occupational knowledge, the ability to work as a member of a team, motivation to pursue continuing vocational training, quality awareness, international skills and a well-developed focus on customer needs.
