Fit for the market of the future: first nationally standardised advanced training regulations for marketing specialists
Marketing is a dominant force of everyday life! One thing virtually all successful companies have in common is their consistent customer orientation, an approach which involves equally consistent use of modern marketing measures and instruments. To meet the present and future challenges of this modern advanced training occupation, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) has drawn up the firstly nationally standardised advanced training regulations for the occupation of marketing specialist. This qualification opportunity, which was developed jointly with experts from company practice, has been enacted as an advanced training ordinance by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and has recently come into effect.
Marketing specialists are able to act on their own initiative to recognise changes and opportunities for their companies on domestic and international markets at an early stage. This needs to be followed up by responsible planning and evaluation of appropriate marketing measures and the deployment of suitable instruments to implement them. The aim of the new examination regulations is to provide the evidence of possession of the necessary competences to do so. The most important aspects of these future requirements are:
- obtaining, evaluating, forecasting and presenting market information;
- project and product management, in other words the organisation, coordination, discussion and implementation of national and international marketing strategies, projects and initiatives within the company, extending to include specialist leadership skills;
- controlling and quality development in strategic and operative marketing.
The new ordinance for the continuing training of marketing specialists will extend to the following examination areas in future:
- project and product management,
- deployment of marketing instruments,
- market research and marketing statistics,
- the law as it applies to marketing,
- presentation, chairing discussions, specialist leadership.
Although only chamber regulations have been available thus far, the occupation of marketing specialist was one of the advanced training occupations most in demand in Germany in 2003 and 2004, both years seeing over 1,200 examination candidates. And the high level of interest is continuing!
Alongside the re-regulation and modernisation of around 350 training occupations within the dual system, the further development of advanced training ordinances is one of the central tasks of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training in Bonn. This year will see the development or modernisation of five further advanced training regulations, including certified accountant and certified controller.
