Changes in learning culture

Forum 7 - Changes in learning culture - will address the structuring of vocational education and training at implementation level. In other words, this forum will revolve around VET at various learning venues, including distance learning.

Organisational, instruction, learning and media concepts will be presented and discussed on the basis of examples. Forum 7 will also point out means and opportunities for transfer activities that can be used with a widespread impact in everyday working life.

What is the background to this? Due to today's changing requirements and means, we must continue to develop and hone the learning cultures in companies and educational establishments in order to remain competitive. Process-orientedness is becoming increasingly evident in Germany's new open-structured training regulations and in continuing training concepts for formal and informal learning and is already being practiced in part. It is of vital importance to modern skilled work. Learning within processes and via processes offers scope for new training models that are integrated into and oriented to working processes.

The use of digital media plays a central role in this connection. Digital media are used in teaching and learning processes as instruction and learning aids, as knowledge management tools and as tools for work. They enable formal and informal e-learning which supplements and to some extent replaces other traditional forms of learning. In this connection, 'social software' and information and knowledge management that is integrated into the workplace can support self-organised learning. Forum 7 will also examine the trends that are emerging in this area and how they are further changing learning cultures in enterprises and educational establishments.

It is VET personnel that carries out vocational education and training. In many areas however the indicated changes collide with existing notions, experience, organisational forms and legal provisions. Forum 7 will therefore look at how instruction personnel deals with the changes in learning culture and what conclusions have to be drawn from this at VET implementation level and at the level of the VET system itself.
