The BIBB at the "didacta" education trade fair in Cologne:

Minister Laumann awards the Continuing Education Innovation Prize (WIP)

On 1 March 2007 North Rhine-Westphalia Labour Minister Karl-Josef Laumann will present this year's Continuing Education Innovation Prize (WIP) of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). The Federal Institute awards the WIP (www.bibb.de/wip) annually in recognition of innovative and trend-setting projects in the field of continuing vocational education and training. The WIP 2007 presentation by Minister Laumann to a total of five projects (commencing at 2:30 pm in Hall 10, Stand A 091) will be one of the highlights in BIBB activities at the "didacta" education trade fair in Cologne. The BIBB will introduce itself again on site from 27 February to 3 March at Europe's largest education trade fair and offer information, lectures and discussions on topical issues and prospects of initial and continuing vocational education and training.

At the BIBB Exhibition Stand (Hall 10, Stand A 090), trade fair visitors can obtain information about, among other things,

  • the ongoing national and international research and development work of the Institute,
  • the wide spectrum of content of BIBB training materials for vocational education and training (publications, CD-ROMs, videos, online and offline products),
  • the Vocational Education and Training Literature Database (www.ldbb.de),
  • the www.foraus.de portal for training personnel,
  • the Good Practice Center (GPC), specifically devoted to the promotion of disadvantaged persons in vocational education and training.

Parallel to that, the BIBB is organizing the Forum on Training/Qualification (Hall 10, Stand A 091). There will be a different program of lectures and presentations every day in which vocational education and training experts will discuss the current state of research and the latest activities in the following thematic areas:

  • the new education and training structure program under the aegis of the BIBB, "JOBSTARTER - Training for the Future" (Tuesday, 27 Feb. 2007)
  • the symposium on "Vocational Education and Training for Sustainable Development" under the motto "Learning from the forest - and living sustainably". This "transparent" event is open to the public, and all interested trade fair visitors are invited to take part in the discussion (Wednesday, 28 Feb. 2007)
  • new developments in continuing vocational education and training (Thursday, 01 March 2007)
  • vocational education and training in the international context - lectures on, among other topics, the European and National Qualification Framework and the new EU development program "Life-long learning" (Friday, 02 March 2007)
  • Vocational education and training today - lectures on qualification modules, readiness for training and two-year training occupations, among other topics (Saturday, 03 March 2007)

Details concerning the Programme of the Forum on Training/Qualification can be found at the BIBB website under www.bibb.de/flyerforum

The symposium on "New Media in Vocational Education and Training - Learning and Media Concepts for Quality Improvement" will round off the BIBB activities at the trade fair. At this event, organized jointly by the BIBB and the Didacta Association, experts will present new concepts, approaches to solutions and examples of practical applications of the new media for improving training quality in vocational education and training (Thursday, 01 March 2007, 10:30 am - 4:30 pm, Fairgrounds,  CC East, Conference Room 3).
