"Comenius EduMedia Award" for BIBB learning CD-ROM
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB), including all its development and production partners, has received the "Comenius EduMedia Award" for its CD-ROM "Advice, Goods and Sales", one of eight CD's comprising the "Learning Arrangements in Retail Services" series. The award is given to didactic European multimedia products displaying excellence in terms of pedagogy, content and design. The awards ceremony was conducted by the Society for Pedagogy and Information (GPI) and was held at the "House of German Craft Trades" in Berlin. BIBB had been primarily responsible for the development of "Learning Arrangements in Retail Services" during the previous year, the object being to provide multimedia support for third-year training in the occupation of "Management Assistant for Retail Services".
"This award is an acknowledgement of the fact that the Federal Institute is pursuing the right pathway in the piloting development work it is pursuing on the implementation of pedagogical concepts within the context of new regulations", says BIBB President Manfred Kremer. "The self-learning CD's promote permeability between occupations in the retail trade and strengthen the media competence of both trainees and training staff."
The BIBB President sees great potential in the establishment and expansion of cooperative relationships with the vocational schools. Various forms of e-learning could lead to greater interlinking between companies providing training and vocational schools as well as helping to overcome future challenges. In the view of Manfred Kremer, such challenges included the demographically related decrease in the number of trainees, provision of support to learners in their preparations for external examinations and the crediting of competences evidenced via self-directed e-learning processes.
