BIBB upgrades online provision for the support of disadvantaged young people in vocational education and training
New thematic areas, new forms of presentation and a re-structured page navigation are the core components of a revision undertaken of the Internet presence of the Good Practice Center for the Support of Disadvantaged Young People in Vocational Education and Training (GPC) at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). This expanded and updated provision now enables an even greater degree of support to be lent to specialists working in the practical area of providing support for disadvantaged young people in vocational education and training. For six years, the GPC at BIBB (German language website www.good-practice.bibb.de) has acted as a knowledge and experience portal for "good practice" in VET support for disadvantaged young people.
Details of the individual revisions which have taken place are as follows.
- Themed pages: the most important topics relating to VET support for disadvantaged young people are presented in a comprehensive and new way. Users will find definitions, examples of good practice, materials from the GPC databases and basic information in the areas of background knowledge, research, practice and the statutory foundations. The provision is supplemented by literature references and a "look beyond the borders" into an international area focussing particularly on other countries in Europe. The new "Comments" section invites all visitors to put their point of view and engage in debate.
- Enquiries: for the first time, details of selected enquiries posed by visitors to the GPC website will be made publicly available. This will enable a broader knowledge transfer basis to be established, one of the GPC's main tasks.
- Glossary: an index of terms provides an extensive collection of definitions to reflect the broadly based nature of the field of provision of support for disadvantaged young people. In order to afford all interested parties the opportunity of posing questions, giving information and contributing to the debate, a comment function has also been integrated into this area of the site.
- Page navigation: new topics and new content call for new structures. As well as integrating the new thematic and page areas, the revision and expansion of the navigation have also enhanced the ease of operation and user-friendliness of the GPC Internet presence. The logic of the page structure has been optimised and content for which there is a heavy demand, such as the GPC publications, has also been rendered more rapidly accessible.
