BIBB 'live' at the didacta 2008 Trade Fair for Education and Training

Information on initial and continuing vocational education and training direct from the experts: The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) will once again be on hand at didacta, Europe's largest education and training fair being held in Stuttgart from 19 to 23 February 2008, where it will inform visitors at lectures, presentations and in personal discussions about current developments and opportunities in the vocational education and training field. Some 800 exhibitors will be present at didacta 2008. The organizers expect up to 80,000 education-hungry visitors.

Visitors to the BIBB stand (Hall 7, Stand 7 B 69) will find information about:

  • The institute's current national and international research and development work, 
  • The broad range of content offered by BIBB instruction materials for vocational education and training (publications, CD-ROMs, DVDs and online and offline products),
  • The Berufliche Bildung vocational training literature database (http://www.ldbb.de/ )
  • The BIBB Forum for Instructors (www.foraus.de) and about
  • The new AusbildungsPlus training portal that provides extensive information about supplementary qualifications that can be earned through vocational education and training and about 'dual' vocational training programmes (which combine part-time vocational schooling with practical work experience) (www.ausbildungplus.de).

Parallel to this, BIBB is also organizing the Forum Ausbildung/Qualifikation vocational training and qualification forum (Hall 7, Stand 7 A 69). This stand will feature a lecture and presentation programme with a different focus every day. Here, BIBB experts will be presenting findings from their current research and outlining their latest activities:

  • International Vocational Education and Training Day (Tuesday, 19 February 2008) with lectures on a wide range of subjects including the planned European Qualifications Framework and the German Qualifications Framework (EQF and GQF) and EU education programmes,  
  • Sustainability Day (Wednesday, 20 February 2008) - a specialized conference on Vocational Education and Training for Sustainable Development. This event is open to the public and invites all interested visitors to the fair to attend and take part in the discussions,
  • Continuing Vocational Education and Training Day (Thursday, 21 February 2008) with lectures and information on the latest findings from research on continuing vocational training in Germany,
  • Vocational Education and Training for Special Target Groups Day (Friday, 22 February 2008) with lectures on a variety of subjects including unplaced applicants from previous years, disadvantaged persons in the vocational training system and persons with an immigration background,
  • Vocational Training Day (Saturday, 23 February 2008) will feature presentations on the planned new occupations Personnel Services Clerk and Production Technician plus lectures on the temporary suspension of the Ordinance on Trainer Aptitude (AEVO) and on the new BIBB internet portal for examiners.

The award ceremony for the Prize for Innovation in Continuing Vocational Education and Training (WIP) will be one of the highlights of BIBB's activities at the fair (Thursday, 21 February 2008, 3:30 pm, Forum Ausbildung/Qualifikation). BIBB awards this prize every year to innovative, trail-blazing projects in the field of continuing vocational training. This year's WIP ceremony will honour five projects which will each receive € 2,500 in prize money. The Minister President of the state of Baden-Württemberg, Mr Günther H Oettinger, will be the patron for the ceremony.

The conference New Media in Vocational Education and Training - Media and Learning Concepts for Inter-company Vocational Training and Centres of Competence (Friday, 22 February 2008, 10:30 am to 4:30 pm, conference room C 9.3) will round out BIBB's participation in didacta 2008. BIBB is organizing this event in conjunction with the Didacta association. The conference will spotlight the importance of using new media and learning concepts when developing qualified inter-company vocational education and training centres into modern centres of competence and how training personnel can push forward efforts to improve the quality of learning and teaching concepts in such facilities through the use of new media and learning concepts.
