In the wake of the significant decline in the number of training positions offered by companies this year, the Federal government has initiated the training offensive "Train now - everyone needs to be successful" with the aim of enlisting the support of more companies in efforts to make training positions available.
The Federal Employment Agency has reported that there were 393,061 training positions in Germany in March. Compared to March 2002 (451,537), this means a drop of 58,476 (a 13% decline). At the same time the number of persons registered as seeking a training position has risen slightly (by 337) over March 2002 to reach 541,749. With 331,047 unplaced applicants, this figure is 2,695 or 0.8% higher than last year. With 190,185 vacant vocational training positions in Germany as a whole, there were 42,508 fewer (a drop of 18.3%) than for the same month last year. This yields a computational shortage of 140,862 positions. This shortage was 45,000 fewer at this point in time in both of the last two years.
Here are some publications and measures taken by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training in the Training Offensive 2003:- The online portal http://www.audbildungsoffensive2003.de/ is being set up by BIBB on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Training and Research within the framework of the KIBB project (Communications and Informations Centre for Professional Training). Here information is being prepared and published for companies which would like to train. In addition, a hotline has been established for companies which want to create training positions within the framework of the training offensive.
- A special edition of the BIBB journal BWP - Berufsbildung in Wissenschaft und Praxis also appeared on June 24, 2003 ("Training Day"). It contains numerous articles examining the problem of "training positions for everyone" from the perspective of vocational education and training policy and the perspective of research and practice. Federal Minister of Education Bulmahn provides an introductory article on measures being carried out by the Federal Government to promote companies' willingness to train. The following articles are planned among others:
