BIBB Data Report - New standard work on vocational education and training
Which occupations reported the most training contracts with young men and women in 2008? How large were the shares of school leavers who entered the 'dual' vocational training system (which combines part-time vocational schooling with practical work experience), broken down by their level of secondary schooling, and how will demand for dual vocational training develop in the coming years? The Data Report of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) offers answers to these and other topical questions regarding vocational education and training (VET). Published for the first time this year, the BIBB Data Report will be used as a basis for the "Report on Vocational Education and Training for the Year 2009" which is issued by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The BIBB Data Report offers extensive information and analyses regarding the development of VET in Germany.
In past years, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training supplied extensive scientific analyses and statistics for the annual Report on Vocational Education and Training which the Federal Ministry of Education and Research releases in April every year. Following a recommendation issued by the BIBB Board, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research decided to restructure its report. Starting this year, the Report on Vocational Education and Training will be published in two sections: a political section that the Ministry prepares and the federal government approves and an indicator-based data section which BIBB will publish on its own authority. The result is a clear division between the scientific analyses and the political assessments that are made on the basis of these analyses.
The BIBB Data Report is comprised of four sections with a total of some 400 pages and approximately 250 charts, diagrams and tables with up-to-date information on vocational education and training. The first two sections focus on key indicators for vocational training (Section A) and for continuing vocational training (Section B) and show developments over time. The BIBB Data Report will also address a different focal subject each year. The focal subject of this year's report is Training Modules (Section C). Developments in European and international VET collaboration are the focus of Section D and round out the new BIBB Data Report.
