Girls'Day 2010 at BIBB
From robots to tips on writing an application
From robots to tips on writing an application Ready, set, go: Girls'Day - the largest vocational guidance project in Germany for girls in form 5 on up - is being held for the tenth time on 22 April 2010. Hosts are primarily technical enterprises, firms with technical divisions and technical vocational training programmes, universities and research centres who all open their doors and offer girls an opportunity to become acquainted with occupational fields that are not typically associated with women. These are usually occupations that require formal vocational training or university degree in a MINT (mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, technology/engineering) field.
This year's Girls'Day will feature an extensive programme - and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) will naturally also be hosting activities: At 9:30, BIBB's president, Manfred Kremer will welcome girls from the Gottfried Kinkel Intermediate Secondary School and the Emilie Heyermann Intermediate Secondary School in Bonn. These girls will then learn how to put together an application, be introduced to BIBB's printing operations, find out about Mindstorms robots and receive expert tips for interviews.
The girls' hands-on experience is intended to motivate and encourage them to choose formal vocational training or university studies in promising occupational fields such as technology, information technology, the skilled trades, engineering or the natural sciences. BIBB also wants to stir young girls' curiosity as they go about choosing an occupation.
The activities BIBB is organising for Girls'Day can also found on the activity map (http://www.girls-day.de/) which lists all Girls'Day activities at participating organisations and enterprises throughout the country.
