How is the youth of today changing vocational training of the future?

BIBB/DJI conference: New Generation? - New Vocational Training?

How are young people dealing with the changes currently being seen in society and the economy? How do these changes affect their personal development, choice of occupation and their plans for the future? These and similar questions will be the focus of the conference New Generation? - New Vocational Training? to which the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the German Youth Institute (DJI) are inviting all interested parties from the research field and day-to-day vocational training practice for a dialogue in Bonn on 28 and 29 October 2009.

The conference will be opened at 1:30 pm on 28 October by Professor Dr Reinhold Weiß, deputy president and head of research at BIBB, and by Dr Jan Skrobanek, head of the DJI branch office in Halle. This will be followed by three parallel workshops where participants will discuss the consequences that current socio-economic changes are having for the vocational training system and the tasks that face trade and industry, the political sector and the persons and bodies responsible for vocational education and training:

  • Workshop 1: Today's youth: Better or different? How well are young people prepared for today's new challenges?
  • Workshop 2: Opportunities and risks presented by the transition from secondary school to vocational training: How can young people get started with vocational training?
  • Workshop 3: The quality of in-company vocational training and its price: How do trainees and firms assess current day-to-day vocational training practice?

Detailed information regarding the conference is available at www.bibb.de/veranstaltungen . The deadline for registration is 15 October 2009.
Reprint free of charge - voucher copy requested.
