All dual training occupations at a glance: the complete A to Z

Each year, more than half of all young women decide to pursue one of only ten training occupations. Around a third of young men enter training in one of the occupations included in the annual "Top Ten" list. The number of training occupations is, however, far more extensive. There are, in fact, 349 occupations in which "dual" (in-company and vocational school based) training is provided. In order to offer companies, vocational guidance services and young people a summary of all information on this multitude of occupations, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) publishes an Index of "Recognised Training Occupations" every year. "Recognised Training Occupations 2009" has just been issued and constitutes a standard reference work presenting a complete A to Z of all state recognised training occupations.
The "Recognised Training Occupations 2009" Index documents regulatory VET work in the non-school based field. It states recognised training occupations as well as providing information on occupations which are being piloted, which have been abolished or which have been updated. The Index also provides additional information by listing relevant legal provisions and by stating the applicable training regulations. BIBB is responsible for management and publication of the Index of Recognised Training Occupations pursuant to the Vocational Training Act (BBiG).In the interests of greater clarity, BIBB has undertaken a revision of this year's edition of the "Recognised Training Occupations" Index. The print version has been reduced in volume from almost 600 pages to around 350. The main focus of the new edition is now on content, an area for which BIBB is responsible under the provisions of the BBiG. The chapters which have not been included in the print edition, such as the chapter dealing with federal state law on initial and continuing training regulations for occupations in the health and social services sectors, will in future be available in the form of a supplementary online section on the BIBB website at http://www.bibb.de/en/26171.htm .This Internet link may also be used to access detailed information on content and examination requirements for the training occupations.

The "Recognised Training Occupations 2009" Index (ISBN: 978-3-7639-4227-5) may be ordered from BIBB's partner publishing house W. Bertelsmann Verlag in Bielefeld at a price of €29.90, either by e-mail at service@wbv.de  or by fax on 0049/521/9110119.
