Collaboration with Thailand on the issue of the costs and benefits of vocational training for enterprises
A workshop on the subject of "Costs and Benefits of In-Company Vocational Training" was held in Bangkok on 14 and 15 September 2009 at the invitation of the Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), which is located in the Ministry of Education of Thailand.
OVEC Deputy Secretary-General, Dr Siripan Choomnoom, invited some 70 business representatives, experts and executives from OVEC (mostly directors of vocational colleges) and experts from other ministries (such as the labour ministry) to the workshop.
BIBB presented a study on the subject of "Costs and Benefits of Vocational Training for Enterprises".
The lectures were followed by a lively discussion. The participants' were particularly interested in the question of how the benefits of vocational education and training can be quantified in monetary terms. It was agreed that OVEC should also use this type of research in order to raise trade and industry's awareness and thus include them more actively in the planning, implementation and evaluation of initial and continuing vocational training.
