BIBB at the "didacta" Trade Fair for Education and Training in Cologne

Minister Sommer and BIBB President Kremer award the 2010 "Prize for Innovation in Continuing Education and Training" (WIP)

This year's "Prize for Innovation in Continuing Education and Training" (WIP) will be awarded on 18 March by Barbara Sommer, Minister for Schools and Continuing Education and Training of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, and Manfred Kremer, President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). 2010 will see the tenth conferment of the WIP (www.bibb.de/wip), which BIBB uses as a vehicle to recognise innovative and forward looking concepts in continuing vocational training and in-company continuing training. The WIP ceremony, at which prizes will be awarded to six outstanding projects (beginning at 3:00 pm, Hall 10, Stand A 090) is one of the highpoints of BIBB's activities at the "didacta 2010" Trade Fair for Education and Training in Cologne. At the event, which is held from 16 to 20 March and is the largest educational fair in Europe, the Federal Institute will provide current information, presentations and discussions on the topic of initial and continuing vocational education and training.

The BIBB exhibition stand (Hall 10, Stand B 091) will present information on:

  • current national and international research and development being conducted by the Institute;
  • the broad spectrum of BIBB materials relating to initial and continuing vocational education and training;
  •  the provision of the Literature Database for Vocational Education and Training  (http://www.ldbb.de);
  • the Good Practice Centre at BIBB, which provides a wealth of information on supporting young people in making the transition from school to the world of work (http://www.good-practice.bibb.de);
  • the "TrainingPlus" portal, which offers young people information on the topics of "additional qualifications in vocational education and training" and "dual courses of study" (http://www.ausbildungplus.de).

At the same time, BIBB will also be organising the "Training/Qualification" Forum (Hall 10, Stand A 090). This event will feature a programme of lectures and presentations which will change every day and in which VET experts will explain the current status of research and the latest activities in the following main areas of focus.

  • VET International (Tuesday 16 March)
  • Training in the craft trades/digital media (Wednesday 17 March)
  • New developments in continuing vocational training (Thursday 18 March)
  •  New occupations/vocational orientation (Friday 19 March)
  • Hands-on science and technology (Saturday 20 March)
