Certified foreman (m/f) in logistics services: new operative management staff steer the flow of goods within a globalised economy
The aim is for the flow of goods within our globalised economy to take place increasingly rapidly and efficiently. In order to deal with the rising tasks within this area and meet the ever growing demands, the logistics sector requires qualified management staff, particularly for operative functions relating to warehousing, dispatch and transport. The new nationally standardised advanced training regulations for "Certified foreman (m/f) in logistics services", which have now been enacted, will form the basis for this. The regulations were commissioned by the Federal Government and developed under the lead management of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) acting in conjunction with branch specialists, continuing training experts and the social partners. They replace the previous advanced training regulations "Master craftsman qualification in warehousing services" dating from the year 1991 and provide a modern and high-quality occupational profile for a major area within the logistics sector. The prerequisites for admission to the examination are a recognised qualification in a training occupation and relevant occupational practice in the field of logistics.
More than 2.5 million people work in logistics in Germany. They are employed in the transport sector as well as in industry, trade and the healthcare sector. The future tasks of certified foremen in logistics services will not be confined to day-to-day business. They will also be required to bring their knowledge and skills to bear in the development of new logistics concepts and will also work in conjunction with internal and external partners in the implementation of such concepts. This means that their spectrum of activity will extend to encompass the planning, organisation, coordination and monitoring of logistics tasks.
They will ensure that orders are processed in a timely manner by optimising the flow of materials and information within the company. The diverse nature of these tasks is reflected in the examination requirements. These range from human resources management and development to health and safety at work and accident protection as well as including logistics planning and cost management. Given the fact that logistics is a multi-layered field of activity, management staff also require additional know-how in order to deal with routine work tasks. The automobile supplier industry, for example, throws up a quite different set of challenges to those faced in port transhipment handling or in the frozen foodstuffs sector. Certified foremen in logistics services will, however, be in possession of fundamental knowledge and skills which will prove indispensable in any branch of logistics.
