BIBB launches new BMBF funding programme Three million euro for projects related to vocational education and training for sustainable development
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) will be acting immediately using finance made available by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) to fund projects related to "Vocational education and training for sustainable development". Project finance encompasses total funding volume of three million euro and is integrated into the second half of the UN Decade "Education for Sustainable Development" (2005 - 2014). One of the key requirements of the UN Decade is for the model of sustainable development to be fully integrated into national educational systems. A key role is being given to initial and continuing vocational education and training in this regard.
The objectives of the new funding focus are to subject problem areas relating to sustainable development in VET to critical analysis and evaluation and to develop and implement concepts for the structuring and further development of vocational education and training. Within this process, the aim is to include all levels of the VET system wherever possible and to ensure that these levels are better interlinked.
BIBB is adopting a two-stage procedure in funding cooperative projects with a term of up to 36 months. The plan is for these projects to implement vocational education and training for sustainable development in a branch-specific manner and to exhibit a regional reference. Funding will also be available for individual projects with a term of no longer than 24 months which investigate the context of vocational education and training for sustainable development and work and employment structures. These projects should feature an interdisciplinary approach. The involvement of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME's) is expressly welcomed. The deadline for the submission of project outlines is 27 May 2010. Submissions may be made in electronic or written form to Ms. Winzier. For further details, please consult the funding guidelines.
Guidelines will also be published in the course of the next few weeks on the funding of pilot projects focussing on "New routes into dual training - making use of heterogeneity, supporting small and medium-sized companies" and on "Quality development and assurance in company-based vocational training".
The funding guidelines on "Vocational education and training for sustainable development" are available at www.bibb.de and in one of the forthcoming editions of the Federal Gazette to be published in April 2010.
