BIBB funds pilot projects: Recruit skilled workers for the future 0 Open up fair chances for all youths

In view of future demographic developments, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in particular must be active in the competition over qualified skilled workers. For enterprises in Germany, offering all youths a fair chance of undergoing training that leads to vocational qualification and meeting their company needs for high-quality skilled workers present an enormous challenge. Youths who seek a training place or have already started their vocational training differ from one another in terms of, for example, their educational background, age, possible immigrant background, their possession of the fundamental knowledge and attitudes necessary for successful vocational training, and their individual skills and talents. Enterprises must take these differences 0 in background, ability and experience 0 into greater account and make greater use of them. Only in this way will enterprises in Germany be able to continue recruiting skilled workers and remain competitive in the future. For this reason, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is funding pilot projects revolving around the theme "New paths to dual vocational training 0 Heterogeneousness as an opportunity for assuring skilled labour" with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

As part of this new funding programme, innovative approaches which are being taken by enterprises and other players in the vocational training field and which combine individual support with a social focus will be monitored and evaluated by researchers and developed into models.

These pilot projects will be funded in two stages for a period of up to 36 months. The participation of SMEs, singly or in collaborative projects, is expressly welcomed. It should be remembered in the project descriptions that heterogeneousness is evidenced by differences in biographical features such as the above-mentioned examples. There is a special need for differentiated assistance in connection with this heterogeneousness.
The deadline for the submission of project descriptions is 3 August 2010. Formal funding applications are to be subsequently submitted in a second step.
Further details can be found in German in the funding guidelines which are available at www.bibb.de/modellversuche and in the Bundesanzeiger (Federal Gazette) (Issue 98 from 6 July 2010).
