Recognition of non-formally and informally acquired competences
Report to the Board
This report to the Board of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) has been prepared in order to provide support to actors in the vocational education and training sector in discussing how to incorporate the outcomes of non-formal and informal learning into the German Qualifications Framework (DQR) for lifelong learning. It includes a brief presentation of key ideas, models and concepts related to the recognition of non-formal and informal learning. The reports main aims are to establish an understanding and conceptual clarification of the recognition of non-formal and informal learning and, at the same time, to reflect the status of the debate at national and international level as well as current recommendations and procedures. Documented examples from neighbouring countries are intended to stimulate wider debate in Germany and to inspire innovative approaches. The future outlook is considered in a critical analysis of the next steps in the programme of work.
