Organising vocational education and training to be more permeable with DECVET
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research launched the pilot initiative DECVET - Development of a Credit System in Vocational Education and Training in Germany in the autumn of 2007. The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training is in charge of implementing the initiative and providing flanking support. The DECVET initiative aims to identify and test potential for using credit systems along the interfaces with Germany's 'dual' vocational training system (which combines part-time schooling with practical work experience). During the conference, VET players from the research community and day-to-day VET practice will examine in a joint dialogue the conditions for crediting learning outcomes. Together, they will explore questions concerning how to make VET more flexible (such as through the use of learning outcome units), the development of instruments for assessing skills, and the issue of ensuring training quality by linking input- and outcome-orientedness in the VET field. Using practical examples, participants will address the initiative's key topics in the context of the conflicting demands of systematic-scientific approaches and the implementation of practical projects.
