Cooperation with MOLISA and the National Institute of Vocational Education (NIB) in Vietnam
Although Germany and Vietnam do not face the same challenges, we in Germany also have to develop our vocational education and training system constantly in order to remain competitive. That was the core message of BIBB President Manfred Kremer in his keynote speech at the opening of the Symposium on Challenges within Vocational Education and Training in Vietnam and Germany on 1 December 2010 in Hanoi. The Symposium was attended by some 150 participants from high-level governmental and private training institutions in Vietnam. In addition to the BIBB President the former Vietnamese Minister of Labour, Ms. Hang, and the President of the didacta association, Professor Fthenakis, also spoke.
The event was preceded by a two-day workshop held in Hanoi as part of the three-way cooperation between BIBB, GTZ and the NIB in developing a Vietnamese report on vocational education and training. The workshop followed a visit by two Vietnamese guest scholars from the NIB to the BIBB in mid-September. In the workshop, the structure and content of the German report on vocational education and training and the data report were discussed with the more than thirty representatives of the NIB and the social partner organizations attending. After that, working groups and plenary sessions discussed strategic and operational objectives of a Vietnamese report on vocational education and training, potential stakeholders in Vietnam and the requisite indicators to serve as a basis for the structure of the Vietnamese report on vocational education and training and to be further developed over the next few months. The BIBB will support this development with substantive contributions, visiting scholars and further workshops again next year.
