New impetus for collaboration with the USA

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Colleges, Department of Education, Dr. Frank Chong, sprach mit den Maren Verfürth(BIBB) und Hans Joachim Kissling(BIBB) über die künftige Zusammenarbeit.

Two representatives of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) visited Washington, D.C. from 13 to 17 December 2010 with the aim of establishing a broader foundation for collaboration with the USA in the area of vocational education and training. While there, they held talks with representatives of the German embassy, the U.S. Department of Education (US-DE) and BIBB's partner institute AACC (American Association of Community Colleges).

Two joint projects have already been initiated on the basis of a cooperation agreement which BIBB has had with the AACC since 2003.

A second binational workshop for experts to be held in Washington, DC in the spring of 2011 will not only evaluate project progress in the area of Green Occupations and Automotive Production, new areas for collaboration such as exchanges of experts will also be the focus of interest.

The first binational workshop for experts was held under the banner Globally Competitive and Sustainable Qualifications in Vocational Education and Training - Automotive Production / Green Occupations at BIBB in Bonn from 4 - 6 May 2010. Four concrete starting points for collaboration developed out of this workshop. On the German side, the Berufsförderungswerk der Bauindustrie NRW e.V., DEKRA Akademie GmbH, Siemens AG and the Institute Technology and Education of the University of Bremen attended the workshop.
