Prime Minister Mappus and BIBB President Kremer to award the 2011 "Prize for Innovation in Continuing Education and Training"

BIBB at the "didacta" education fair in Stuttgart

This year's "Prize for Innovation in Continuing Education and Training" (WIP) will be presented on 24 February 2011 by the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Stefan Mappus and the President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) Manfred Kremer. The WIP (www.bibb.de/wip ) has been awarded by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training every year since 2000 to recognise innovative and forward looking ideas in continuing vocational training and in company-based continuing training. The WIP will confer prizes on six outstanding projects, and the prize-giving ceremony (which will begin at 2:15 pm, Hall 7, Stand A 69) will provide one of the centrepieces of BIBB's activities at this year's "2011 didacta" education fair in Stuttgart. The "didacta" is the largest educational fair in Europe, and the Federal Institute will once again be maintaining a presence from 22 to 26 February offering current information, presentations and discussions on issues relating to initial and continuing vocational education and training.

 The BIBB exhibition stand (Hall 7, Stand B 59) will provide visitors to the fair with information on such topics as:

  • the ongoing national and international research and development work the Institute is pursuing;
  • the broad spectrum of BIBB materials on initial and continuing vocational education and training;
  • the services provided by the Vocational Training Literature Database (www.ldbb.de);
  • the Good Practice Centre at BIBB offering a wide range of information on support for young people making the transition from school to the world of work (www.good-practice.bibb.de);
  • "Training Plus" - the BIBB portal for young people on the topics of "Additional VET qualifications" and "Dual courses of study" (www.ausbildungplus.de).

BIBB will once again also be organising the "Training/Skills" Forum to run in parallel to the above (Hall 7, Stand A 69). This will feature a daily programme of lectures and presentations in which initial and continuing vocational training experts will focus on the latest status of research and the most recent activities within the following main areas.

  • Results from VET research (Tuesday 22 February)
  • Information for trainers (Wednesday 23 February)
  • New developments in continuing vocational training (Thursday 24 February)
  • Vocational orientation (Friday 25 February)
  • Hands-on science and technology (Saturday 26 February)

For further (German language) details on individual lectures and presentations please visit the BIBB website at www.bibb.de/messen.

The Federal Government Programme on Vocational Orientation in Inter-Company and Comparable Vocational Training Centres (BOP), which is being implemented by BIBB, is also located at the stand of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in Hall 7, Stand D 61 as is the training structure programme JOBSTARTER - training for the future.

Finally, BIBB's presence at the fair is also supplemented by the National Agency Education for Europe, which can be found at the stand of the European Commission Directorate General for Education and Culture (Hall 7, Stand B 89) and will be providing information on European educational programmes and on the Europass. Its main focus will be on the new EU flagship initiative "Youth on the Move".
