Competence orientation in vocational education and training
The debate about the concept of competence and its meaning for vocational education research and practice has garnered keen attention in recent years. Competence research aims to shed light on potential courses of action for meeting diverse requirements faced by the education sector, for ensuring the international comparability of vocational qualifications, and for validating informal as well as formally acquired skills and understanding.
This collected volume gives an overview of various facets of the competence research discourse in general, and of current work in progress at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). In this way it reflects the wide spectrum of theoretical concepts and situations in which competences are applied.
