Chile interested in the German 'dual' vocational training system

A high-level delegation from Chile made an information-gathering visit to BIBB on 25-26 May 2011. The trip had the aim of obtaining in-depth information about BIBB's role and the 'dual' vocational training system in Germany (which combines part-time schooling with practical work experience). The delegation was comprised of experts from Chile's Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education, the German-Chilean Chamber of Commerce, the Chilean umbrella organisation for the promotion of trade and industry, and important institutes in the field of initial and continuing vocational training. Besides the exchange of information at BIBB, the two-day programme included a tour of an inter-company training centre for initial and continuing vocational training and a visit to a vocational college and a company vocational training centre.
A cooperation agreement between BIBB and Chile does not exist at the present time. Chile does not have an institute along the lines of BIBB whose work revolves around research, development and advisory services in the area of vocational education and training. Consequently, BIBB's points of contact are Chile's Ministry of Education and the Chilean Embassy in Berlin.
