BIBB intensifies cooperation with China in the vocational education and training field
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is assisting China in its efforts to reform the Chinese vocational training system. BIBB recently signed a cooperation agreement with China's Central Institute for Vocational and Technical Education (CIVTE) in Peking in order to foster international collaboration in the area of vocational education and training (VET). "With its expertise, BIBB will provide important input and impetus for the reform of the Chinese vocational education and training system," President Professor Dr Friedrich Hubert Esser stated. "Germany and China are facing enormous economic and social challenges. Closer collaboration will be fruitful for both sides when establishing a modern vocational education and training system with sustainable structures in the enormous 'Middle Kingdom'."
The agreement between BIBB and the CIVTE provides for conducting joint workshops for VET experts, in addition to regular exchanges of information. Thematic priorities for future Sino-German collaboration will be quality assurance in the initial and continuing vocational training field, fostering collaboration between schools and enterprises, and improving the skills and qualifications of training personnel.
Germany and China have been working together in the vocational education and training field for more than 30 years now with the aim of fostering the social and economic development of both countries. BIBB has had working relations with different partners in China since the 1990s. These partners include China's Ministry of Education, the Institute of Vocational and Technical Education at Tongji University in Shanghai and other regional vocational training institutes. With the signing of an official cooperation agreement, Sino-German collaboration in the VET field is now being given a new foundation.
Demand from other countries for BIBB's advisory services has been growing for years now due to the attractiveness of Germany's vocational training system and its intermeshing of theory with practice. At present, BIBB has some 30 international cooperation agreements with institutions and facilities throughout the world to assist and support the reform of the vocational education and training systems there. In Asia alone, BIBB is active on location not only in China but also in India, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Background:
The Chinese government established the CIVTE in 1990 in the wake of consultations with Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The CIVTE was modelled on BIBB. Being a state-run research and development institute, the CIVTE falls under the direct authority of the Chinese Ministry of Education.
