Prospects and constraints for credit points in construction-sector vocational education and training

In principle, learning outcomes can be recognised irrespective of context even when training courses vary greatly in structure.  Nevertheless, major differences in structure cause noticeable difficulties. This is shown by examples from a comparison of initial and advanced vocational training for construction-industry foremen in Germany, France and Austria. Use could be made of credit points within a framework of mutual recognition. Under current structural conditions, however, these are neither functionally necessary, nor would they contribute in their own right to arrangements for recognition. More important aspects for mutual recognition would be zones of mutual trust and the promotion of learner mobility during advanced as well as initial vocational training.
