Develop strategies for international cooperation in the field of vocational training!
National vocational training systems are under evaluation at the international level: In view of the globalisation of the economy they are increasingly being forced to demonstrate their quality and innovative capabilities in an international vocational training market. And the competition is extensive: programmes - which are enjoying increasingly popularity - are being offered by many countries e.g. system consulting services, methods and tools for standardising vocational profiles or teaching and learning material which has been adapted to respective national needs and requirements. Germany needs to position itself in this international market as well. This requires targeted strategies while regional focal points need to be set for international cooperation in the field of vocational training in order to underscore the strengths of the German training system at the international level and to successfully compete in the international vocational training market.
Basic information on the further development of such "vocational training marketing" can now be found in a publication entitled "Deutsche Berufsbildungskooperation weltweit - Potenziale erkennen, Synergien nutzen" ("German cooperation in vocational training worldwide - recognising potentials, taking advantage of synergies"), put out by the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB). This work presents the results of a study which was aimed at generating information and data on "approaches and structural elements of German vocational training programmes in foreign countries" and to gain an overview of ongoing projects, partnerships and the experience of German institutions with international cooperation in the field of vocational training.
The brochure and CD-ROM enclosed with it contain the following:
- Profiles of the most important German institutions involved in international cooperation in the field of vocational training
- Comprehensive information on ongoing projects, partnerships and experience gained by German institutions in international cooperation in the field of vocational training,
- Profiles of 44 selected countries which have approaches and structural elements of German vocational training and/or are interested in elements of (dual) vocational training) in the reform of their vocational training systems
- A survey of specific countries examining the variety of technical cooperative relations in the field of vocational training,
- Documentation and analysis of initiatives in which similar objectives are being pursued on a cooperative basis in the area of dual vocational training
Finally, in the conclusion of the study
- Recommendations are issued for German cooperation in the area of international vocational training.

- The BIBB publication "Internationalisierung der Berufsbildung. Strategien - Konzepte - Erfahrungen - Handlungsvorschläge" analyses the topic of "internationalisation of vocational training". Based on the fact that services and products can be bought and sold worldwide and that support in finding these services and products needs to be made available, the question is explored as to whether and how vocational training in Germany prepares skilled labour for these changing qualification requirements. Strategies, concepts, experience and, finally, proposals on actions to systematically internationalise vocational training are presented.
