edvance: international network for German vocational training

German training providers who actively engage in international cooperation on vocational education and training (VET) can now benefit from the new website of the edvance initiative established by the German federal government and based at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB). The centrepiece of the extended Internet presence at www.edvance.info  is a comprehensive calendar of all known events in the field of international VET cooperation. Another function to be added shortly - in cooperation with members of the edvance advisory board - is a new database of projects with the various partner countries. It is the only information and knowledge platform of its kind and supports the continuing efforts of export-oriented German training providers to develop their international VET marketing.

"Germany has an outstanding reputation in vocational education and training worldwide. Many countries view the German dual system of practice-based initial vocational training as a model for success," emphasises Friedrich Hubert Esser, the President of BIBB. "The edvance initiative helps to reinforce this good reputation and increase the share of German providers in the international market for education and training."

As an umbrella brand for international VET cooperation, edvance aims to improve networking between the state, para-statal, private sector and non-profit organisations operating abroad. The initiative is expected to increase transparency and generate synergies. A further aim is to speak with a common voice so as to enhance the presentation and perception of German education and training activities abroad, and to improve prospects in growing education markets around the world. The initiative is managed jointly by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Education is a product for which international demand is on the rise. The total volume of education and training exports worldwide is estimated at EUR 45 billion.
