First regional meeting of BIBB partner institutions in Latin America

The first regional meeting of BIBB partner institutions in Latin America took place in Metepec (Mexico) from 10 to 11 May 2012.

The event was organised in conjunction with BIBB's partner institute in the country, the Mexican National College of Technical Professional Education (Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica, CONALEP). Around 20 representatives from CONALEP, from the Columbian National Vocational Training Service SENA and from the Chilean Ministry of Labour (MinTrab/MINEDUC) were invited to attend.

The partner meeting was officially opened by the Governor of the Federal State of Mexico Mr. Eruviel Avila Villegas, speaking in front of approximately 150 guests. Mr. Avila stressed the major significance of dual training within his federal state and emphasised his own political desire to foster the establishment such a form of training at a national level. The Minister of Education of the Federal State of Mexico, Raymundo Martínez Carbajal, who had previously served as Head of CONALEP in the Federal State of Mexico for many years, also accentated the importance of VET cooperation between Germany and Mexico.

At the suggestion of the partner institutions, the overarching topic addressed by the meeting was "Early recognition of training requirements in vocational education and training". Within this context, the individual countries (Chile, Germany, Columbia and Mexico) presented their experiences and the associated current VET policy challenges they face. Bilateral discussions (held on a rotational principle) then provided a vehicle for participants to obtain information about ongoing projects and about the relevant sectors of trade and industry involved in the promotion of vocational education and training measures. This was used as a basis for defining thematic starting points and joint cooperation activities between the countries.

The meeting afforded an opportunity for bilateral exchanges of views and was used by the Latin American parties to initiate working contacts.
