Considerable interest in information regarding procedures for the recognition of foreign vocational qualifications

BIBB "Recognition in Germany" portal available in English with immediate effect

The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training online portal "Recognition in Germany" has attracted around 100,000 visitors since 1 April, during which time almost a million  page views have been recorded. The portal backs up the new Recognition Act passed by the Federal Government by bundling all information relating to vocational recognition and by guiding persons with foreign vocational qualifications to the body responsible for their own particular case. This Internet presence is now also available in English with immediate effect. "Nearly 40 percent of visits to the portal are already coming from abroad. Expanding language provision in this way enables us to connect better with skilled workers both at home and abroad and to make an important contribution towards establishing a welcoming culture in Germany", explains BIBB President Friedrich Hubert Esser. The portal is operated by BIBB on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

"The experiences of the first three months show that our service meets an important demand", Esser continues. An analysis of the number of hits received on the site has revealed that around 40,000 people have thus far been provided with information on the competent body in Germany responsible for dealing with their own individual circumstances.
The objectives of the Federal Government in introducing the Recognition Act are to make better use of domestic skilled worker potential and to achieve more immigration from foreign skilled workers. "The Recognition Portal acts in conjunction with other initiatives such as the Blue Card scheme and the skilled worker campaign launched by the Federal Government to exert a significant effect in this regard", stresses the BIBB President. Visits to the site from abroad are widely distributed, although particularly large numbers of hits have been recorded from the USA, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Poland, the United Kingdom, Rumania, France and Croatia. Initial evaluations of search terms entered also reveal a high degree of demand in teaching occupations and in healthcare professions where academic qualifications are required.
The portal now includes a new section entitled "Examples from Practice", which reports on the actual successes achieved and experiences encountered in implementing the Recognition Act at a local level.
The portal is financed within the scope of the "Integration through training - IQ" funding programme operated by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Federal Employment Agency.
