Guidelines for those interested in continuing education
BIBB updates its Checklist for Quality in Continuing Vocational Training
In today's world, those who want to remain up to date in their professions must participate in continuing education. In the ever-changing world of work, individuals must continuously acquire the new qualifications and competencies needed on the labour market in order to remain employable. However, in light of the many and diverse offers in the continuing education landscape, those searching for a "suitable" continuing education course soon find themselves confronted with the question: which offer is right for me? The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) has therefore updated and re-issued its "Checkliste: Qualität beruflicher Weiterbildung" (Checklist for Quality in Continuing Vocational Training , available in German only). This guide provides those interested in continuing vocational education with orientation and support for choosing a continuing vocational education course that meets their professional and individual needs. It also contains an overview of funding possibilities as well as a checklist for comparing continuing education providers. The BIBB guidelines supply well-founded information that those interested in continuing education can use to better assess the quality of offers and providers. The checklist cannot replace a one-on-one guidance session, nor is it intended to do so. The brochure and its contents are structured around the following key questions:
- What factors should be taken into account when choosing a continuing education course?
- What does continuing education cost, what has to be taken into consideration in financing and what funding possibilities are available?
- How is the continuing education course structured? What methods and forms of learning are used? How great is the practical relevance of the learning material?
- What details should be regulated by contract?
- What certificate or degree is awarded for successful completion of the course and how important is it to your professional future?
The guidelines are rounded off with an extensive, alphabetized glossary covering everything from "competent authority" to "recognized training occupation" as well as extensive lists of addresses and links. The Checklist for Quality in Continual Vocational Education Training, now re-issued for the seventh time, can be downloaded free of charge from the BIBB website at www.bibb.de/checkliste
The printed version, which is also free of charge, can be ordered from vertrieb@bibb.de Reprint free of charge - voucher copy requested.
