Around 30 people participated in the workshop, including staff and managers from various sections of SENA and advisors and employees from the Colombian Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Trade, the National Planning Authority (DNP) and the National Statistical Office (DANE). The primary aims of the workshop were to provide an introduction to vocational education and training reporting and the significance of data collection and processing in Germany and to formulate the initial issues relating to the development of a National Data Report in Colombia.

The structure, contents and processes involved in the German Report on Vocational Education and Training and Data Report and Colombian VET reporting were presented and debated at the workshop. Subsequent discussions took place in working groups in order to define objectives for the Colombian VET Data Report and to identify possible users and suppliers of data and information. Key issues for the drawing up of the Data Report were formulated and a Road Map was drafted, the aim being for the later to undergo further development over the coming months.
BIBB will support its Colombian partner in the preparation of the National Data Report in 2013. Exchange of information, expert workshops and visits from guest academic researchers will all be intensified for this purpose.

During a meeting held on 3 October 2012 on the occasion of a visit to Colombia by BIBB President Prof. Dr. Friedrich Hubert Esser and Minister of Education Prof. Dr. Annette Schavan, the Colombian Ministries of Education and Labour formally acceded to the existing cooperation agreement between BIBB and SENA which has been in place since April 2011. The overall term of the newly concluded agreement is four years.
The basis of cooperation is a general agreement which stipulates the implementation of joint projects and the fostering of an exchange of information within the field of vocational education and training and in VET research in particular. The main focus of the German-Colombian cooperation is the establishment of a National Research Centre for Vocational Education and Training in Colombia to be integrated into the organisational structure of SENA. To this end, joint activities for the design and implementation of research projects will take place. A BIBB Strategy Workshop was staged in Bogotá as long ago as February 2012, at which both the Colombian partner organisation and members of the SENA National Board were informed about vocational education and training research in Germany.
