The fourth BIBB Specialist Conference was held in Berlin in October 2002 under the heading "Vocational Training in the 21st Century - An Outlook into a Global Society". This event, by far the largest national initial and continuing training event, was attended by 2500 experts from politics, business, science and the trade unions. In eleven forums and 42 working group they discussed problems of vocational education and training and possible solutions and theorised about prospects of initial and continuing vocational education and training in a globalised service and knowledge society.
The present conference volume summarises the results and perspectives of the conference in eleven articles. The opening and closing of the event and all the papers read are on the appended CD-ROM in the version in which they were provided to the BIBB by the speakers. An extensive service section, comfortable search functions and a list of all the participants allow a thorough examination of all current aspects of vocational education and training.
