Vocational training for a global society - Prospects in the 21st century

... was the theme of the Federal Institute for Vocational Training's 4th special conference held in Berlin in October 2003 where 2,500 experts from the political sector, industry, trade unions and the science community discussed this subject in 11 forums and 42 working groups. The lectures and discussions held during the three-day conference revolved around the problems of, potential solutions and future prospects for basic and continuing vocational training in a globalized service and knowledge society. The conference documentation published by Germany's Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BIBB) allows participants to review all the material covered during the conference and offers those persons who were unable to attend a chance to nonetheless benefit from the meeting. The combined book / CD-ROM documentation presents the most important findings. With more than 350 articles, this documentation contains almost all of the lectures held at the conference. As an added bonus, the CD-ROM's convenient search function allows users to mine the CD-ROM's nearly 4,000 pages of text, making it a reference work for current issues, tasks, and approaches to solutions in the field of basic and advanced vocational training.

The lectures and discussions held during the conference focused on the following key topics:

  • The changing working environment and the consequences for vocational education and training
  • Internationalization of vocational education and training - Experiences and strategies
