Initial and continuing vocational education and training statistics

The vocational training statistics of the Statistical Office summarise statistics on trainees as of December 31 each and every year. The data sheets of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training contain the most important longitudinal statistics and information on all occupations broken down according to the individual German Länder as well as aggregate statistics for Germany.

You can, for example, find answers to the following questions:

  • Whether the number of trainees has risen or declined,
  • How high the rate of premature terminations of training agreements is,
  • The percentage of women
  • What secondary schools the trainees come from, their regional distribution, etc.

The statistics at present date back to December 31, 2000.

A single occupation can be compared with trainees collectively. For example, 64.3% of bank administration trainees have received the Abitur as opposed to only 15.8% for the training system as a whole (data sheet "Aggregate occupations" under "Aggregate areas of training". If you examine a craft, you can also compare it to the average figure for the crafts sector on the whole. The continuing training examinations of the chambers are also included in the vocational training statistics of the Statistical Office. Only those examinations which lead to a certificate from the Chamber of Commerce, the chambers, etc., are included.
