The DECVET Pilot Initiative aims to explore potential reforms and pilot new approaches within the German vocational education and training (VET) system to improve transparency and permeability (i.e. crossover mobility between different tracks).

A smooth transition from initial vocational training into employment is a fundamental prerequisite for establishing successful career trajectories. However, not all young people who complete a dual-system apprenticeship negotiate this 'second threshold' transition with uniformly positive results. An analysis of Microcensus data shows that outcomes vary depending on the level of school-leaving qualifications and the chosen field of initial vocational training.

The switch to Bachelor and Masters courses of study at institutes of higher education is far advanced. As of the winter semester 2009/2010, Bachelor and Masters degrees already accounted for around 80 percent of all courses. This changeover to a new structure of study is linked in with the objective of imparting vocational qualifications which are capable of use on the labour market.

BIBB intensifies cooperation with Mexico

The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) hosted a high-ranking delegation from its Mexican partner institution CONALEP (Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica/National College of Technical Professional Education) in Bonn from 22 to 24 March 2010. The aim of the visit was to intensify bilateral cooperation and define key areas for future collaboration.

40 Years of Research - Consultation - Shaping the Future
The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year. To mark this anniversary, we are hosting a festive get-together in Bonn under the motto "40 Years of BIBB: 40 Years of Research - Consultation - Shaping the Future". The festivities will start at 2 p.m. on 27 May 2010.
