3,5 years
The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Electronics technicians for automation technology integrate, put into operation and maintain automation solutions.
Typical fields of activity are for example production automation, process automation, network automation, traffic management systems and building automation systems.
Electronics technicians for automation technology work independently, observe the relevant regulations and safety rules and coordinate their work with the preceding and following activities. They often work as part of a team. They are qualified electricians within the meaning of the regulations for the prevention of accidents.

Occupational skills

Electronics technicians for automation technology

  • look after automation systems;

  • analyse functional interconnections and process sequences, design modifications and expansions of automation systems;

  •  install and initialize pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical drive systems;

  • install and adjust, configure and initialize sensor and actuator systems as well as electrical control sub-assemblies;

  • program automation systems;

  • install, configure and initialize components and devices, operating systems, bus systems and networks;

  • use application programmes for the recording of measured data, transmission and processing as well as for manufacturing, machine and process control;

  • combine components to produce complex automation facilities and integrate them into higher systems;

  • hand over systems to users and instruct them in their operation;

  • monitor, maintain and operate plant, carry out regular checks, optimize feedback control systems, analyse faults, use test software and diagnostic systems, take immediate measures and repair plant;

  •  also work with English-language documents and communicate in English.
