Duration of traineeship

3 years
The venues for training are the company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule).

Field of activity

Brewers and maltsters work in breweries, malt factories and operations manufacturing non-alcoholic beverages

Occupational skills

Brewers and maltsters

  • Produce malt and brew beer 
  • Produce mixed beer beverages and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Control and regulate technological processes
  • Operate and maintain equipment and machines for producing and filling beverages
  • Evaluate, treat and store raw materials and auxiliary materials
  • Grow and multiply yeasts and conduct microbiological tests
  • Conduct sensory inspections and chemical and technical analyses
  • Conduct personnel, product and operational hygiene measures
  • Package, store and load beverages
  • Commission beverage dispensing machines, conduct hazard analyses and induct operators in using the equipment
  • Apply quality assurance measures
  • Present products, dispense beverages and advise customers
  • Conduct their work either independently or as part of a team, taking into account environmental protection, work safety and health protection requirements
  • Plan their work and check, assess and document their work results
  • Apply communication and information technologies, using foreign language specialist terms
