Training profiles - Basic information on individual training occupations. The following are short descriptions of a selection of the hitherto training occupations. This page will be gradually extended.

Duration of traineeship

3 years

The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule)

Field of activity

Drivers work in road haulage, logistics, waste disposal and tourist travel enterprises or public passenger transport.

Occupational skills

Drivers carry out their work independently on the basis of technical documentation and work orders. They plan and coordinate their work, also with others, in particular with their customers and the previous and subsequent stages in the transport and logistics chain, take measures for safety and health protection at work as well as environmental protection. In addition, they engage in quality assurance measures, write reports on their work and render accounts.

Drivers

  • carry out journeys of freight transport or journeys for the conveyance of persons in tourist or passenger transport, taking into account economic and environmental protection concerns,
  • apply national and international legal and social provisions of road traffic and transport,
  • monitor, maintain and care for the vehicles,
  • prepare the vehicles for the transport of goods or the conveyance of persons, accept the shipment or luggage, secure the load and check the accompanying papers,
  • take measures for the elimination of vehicle faults,
  • behave in a manner appropriate to the situation in accidents and incidents, in particular making accident and danger areas safe and performing first aid,
  • acquire information, evaluate this information, coordinate deadlines and organize journeys taking into account economic concerns.
