Designation of occupation

Architectural draughtsperson

Recognised by ordinance of 12 July 2002 (BGBl. I, p. 2622).

Duration of traineeship

3 years

The venues for training are company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule)

Field of activity

Architectural draughtspersons work in the area of planning and construction of architectural and engineering structures as well as in civil engineering, road building and landscaping. They are employed by planning offices, business enterprises and administrations.

Occupational skills

Architectural draughtspersons carry out drawing, mathematical and organisational activities independently and in cooperation with others in a customer-oriented manner. In doing this, they work predominantly with computer-aided information and communications systems.

Architectural draughtspersons

  • interpret design sketches and make construction and working drawings
  • draw floor plans, sections, views and details
  • make plans and drawings and carry out technical calculations in accordance with recognised technical rules
  • create documentation and make drawings for presentations
  • measure up and draw preliminary site plans
  • administer, edit and plot drawings and documents
    and include technical requirements in construction documents
  • classify building materials, structural elements and construction methods according to their properties and include the results in building documents
  • take part in tender, award and accounting procedures
  • take part in building processes
  • plan and coordinate work processes
  • apply quality assurance measures
  • comply with the principles of environmental protection, safety and health protection at work
