Field of activity

Specialists in labour promotion are employed in the offices of the Bundesanstalt für Arbeit (Federal Employment Services), in particular in its employment offices and their branch offices. They work in the customer service and administration divisions. Their tasks include providing career counselling, job and training place referral services and processing claims for unemployment benefits and children's allowances.

Occupational skills

Specialists in labour promotion

  • have an understanding of economic, social and labour market issues and can identify the relevance of current trends for the occupations concerned,
  • are able to communicate and cooperate with clients and carry out their duties with emphasis on client needs and service provision,
  • are able to work in a team in carrying out their duties,
  • make efficient use of information and communication systems,
  • clarify the concerns of their clients and provide information needed for subsequent casework,
  • assist in career counselling and the referral of jobs and training places,
  • process applications relating to vocational training and employment promotion schemes,
  • assist in carrying out regulatory tasks,
  • receive and process applications for unemployment benefits,
  • process applications for children's allowance,
  • handle personnel and other administrative matters.
