Scaffolder

Duration of traineeship

3 years
The venues for training are the company and part-time vocational school (Berufsschule)

Field of activity

Scaffolders put up, modify and take down scaffolding, protective frames and support racks as well as special constructions and movable working platforms on various properties and locations. Their areas of employment include residential and office buildings, churches, bridges, industrial plant and traffic and assembly areas.

Occupational skills

Scaffolders carry out their work independently on the basis of technical documents and work orders mainly as part of a team and in cooperation with other trades. They plan and co-ordinate their work, set up workplaces and take measures for safety and health protection at work as well as environmental protection. They check that their work has been carried out correctly, document it, carry out quality assurance measures and calculate the value of the work performed. In connection with the following activities, scaffolders operate and maintain machines and equipment.

Scaffolders

  • plan and prepare the sequence of operations,
  • procure and evaluate information,
  • use technical documents,
  • install, secure, dismantle and remove scaffolding,
  • process materials,
  • use, operate and maintain tools, machines and technical equipment,
  • perform measuring work,
  • maintain, store and transport scaffolding components,
  • assess bearing ground and ensure good bearing capacity,
  • anchor scaffolding, check and record anchoring,
  • build longitudinal and surface-oriented scaffolding and protective frames,
  • build support racks with subconstruction including base formwork,
  • assemble and operate lifts and lifting platforms and instruct users,
  • build work decks and platforms,
  • build boat scaffolds (travelling cradles),
  • build weather protection halls and coverings,
  • build scaffolds for special requirements,
  • carry out quality assurance measures and prepare reports.
